Do not let your home float away - we live in Florida everybody is in a flood zone
” The coast of flood insurance is dorp in a bucket compared to the flood damages” – FIMA
Many people think their homeowner’s insurance covers flood damages as well. This is not true, most if not all homeowner’s policies in Florida specifically exclude flood. Therefore, if you want to be protected in case of flooding, you need to purchase a separate flood policy for your home and personal property.
The good news is we live in Florida and everybody qualifies to purchase flood insurance. The bad news is, since we live in Florida, we are all in flood zone.
Some of us are in preferred zoning (many refer to this as non-flood area) and some of us are in high-risk flood zones. If you live in preferred zoning, you are not required by your lender to purchase flood coverage. However, approximately 20% of flood insurance claims come from moderate to low-risk flood areas. Therefore, regardless of your zoning or requirement, you should consider protecting your home and personal belongings by purchasing flood insurance. Do not let the beautiful Florida lifestyle turn into a nightmare during hurricane season!
